Job Description
The Mechanical, Aerospace, and Acoustical Engineering Department at the University of Hartford invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Aerospace Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2025. Applicants from all areas of Aerospace Engineering are welcome. The qualified applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related discipline, excellent potential for and dedication to teaching, research, service, and professional activities.

Applications are sought from candidates who can help the department conduct innovative research and provide world-class engineering education. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching, and/or service to inclusive excellence in the academic community. Review of applications will begin by November 18, 2024 and continue until the position is filled.

Essential Job Duties
This position will primarily teach in the ABET accredited undergraduate Aerospace Engineering Program. This is a new program with significant potential for the applicant to help manage and implement changes to the curriculum and continue the growth of the program. Successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as related laboratories, collaborate with students on independent research, supervise student projects, and actively participate in service activities.

An active scholarly agenda with peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or other accomplishments is expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department, college, and university will include advising students as a primary academic advisor, overseeing undergraduate research projects, and perhaps serving as the faculty advisor for a student organization. Candidates are encouraged to describe any particular expertise in curriculum development related to inclusive excellence in Aerospace Engineering.

Required Qualifications
Required:
  • An earned doctorate in Aerospace Engineering or related discipline is required; ABDs will be considered providing they document a degree completion date.



Preferred:
  • A bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Aerospace engineering teaching experience at an ABET-accredited program with demonstrated ability to provide effective hands-on education.
  • Strong interest in curriculum development, including both lecture based and laboratory based courses.
  • Ability to develop a sustainable research program that includes undergraduate students, including pursuing grants, and supervising student research.
  • Industrial experience in aerospace engineering.
  • Experience or interest in student recruitment, retention, and career preparation.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to mentor and work with diverse student populations in teaching, research and service activities

The College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture offers undergraduate Engineering programs in Electrical, Computer, Acoustical and Music, Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace, and Robotics. It also offers undergraduate Engineering Technology programs in Audio, Computer and Electronic, Electromechanical, as well as Architectural Design + Technology. Additionally, the college offers an undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering and Construction Management + Technology.
